Tui Na.

Tui Na (pronounced twee-nah) has a recorded history in China of at least 4000 years and is one of the four components of Traditional Chinese Medicine, alongside the more familiar Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine and Qi Gong. Using manual pressure instead of needles, the qi points and meridians of the body are massaged, plucked and rubbed. The body is rocked and the limbs are shaken, gently pulled and rotated to encourage the release of muscular tension. The cross fibre plucking technique can be quite painful, but, very effective.

Tui Na is a DEEP TISSUE massage and not for the person who would like a luxuriating pampering experience. It is extremely effective as an on-site massage as 10mins can feel like 30mins of oil based massage!

Deep Tissue Massage.

When muscles are stressed and tense, they inhibit the flow of oxygen, nutrients and blood, which results in pain and the build up of toxins. Deep tissue massage loosens the muscles, releases toxins and aids blood and oxygen circulation. When muscles are in an acute state of stress, the fibres shorten, restricting movement. Deep tissue massage reaches the deeper muscles giving a greater sense of release and range of movement. Some of the techniques can be slightly painful so the client directs the intensity of the massage so a comfortable level of treatment is maintained throughout. Freeing muscular movement is the aim of a deep tissue massage, not a pain endurance contest.

Deep tissue massage gets to the spots that most massages miss!

Pulsing.

Pulsing is a wonderfully relaxing yet extremely powerful sequence of movements that will gently release muscular stress and tension in the entire body. The limbs are shaken and pulled and the body and neck are gently rocked in a rhythmic motion. Pulsing is fun and fabulous to receive.

Aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils to relieve nervous stress, enhance well-being and promote health and vitality.

Essential oils are highly fragrant, volatile fluids that occur naturally in aromatic plants growing the world over. They can be distilled, expressed or solvent extracted from flowers, leaves, seeds, roots, fruits and woods, depending upon the plant. Each essential oil has distinct physiological and psychological properties. By combining the benefits of essential oils and those of therapeutic massage produces a pleasurable yet effective method of healing. Sue uses only the highest quality therapist grade essential oils and base oil in her practice.

Sue will be teaching ITEC Aromatherapy diploma at Body Basics School of Body Therapy in London. For more details visit www.bodybasicsonline.co.uk

For later home use, steam inhalations, baths, compresses, creams, lotions, diffusers and vaporisers can also be utilised: Sue will happily advise or can prepare appropriate blends for your personal use.

Tsubo Face and Head Massage.

I have devised this very relaxing 30min massage based on the acupuncture points found on the face and head. The facial muscles and points are worked with medium to strong pressure, which has a rejuvenating and deeply relaxing effect. Wrinkles are greatly reduced, blood and lymph is stimulated creating a fresh younger appearance. This massage is great on it’s own or added as a finish to a body treatment.
